Share Your CalFresh Application Experience


Sharing about your experience is one opportunity to inform -- and advance -- policy change.

We need to better understand all aspects of applying for and processing CalFresh benefits. Based on research and what we learn from people who apply for benefits, we develop policy recommendations.

We present our recommendations to state and federal lawmakers and push for these changes to become laws. Our recommendations are also presented to food program administrators who are responsible for running the programs such as CalFresh. This can lead to changes in the application process that make it easier to access food.

In addition to learning about the experience of applying by phone, we want to hear about any racial bias that you encountered when applying. We can take the information you share with us to food program administrators and ask for them to make operational changes aimed at removing these barriers and addressing how their organization interacts with applicants.

We will also explain our commitment to your rights as a storyteller, including your rights to control the publication of your story and, if you request, its retraction.
